The Geauga Highway Company, based in Hiram, Ohio, stands as a testament to decades of dedication in the road construction industry in Cleveland, Ohio. With roots stretching back over 55 years in Northeast Ohio, the company has grown into a regional leader in heavy highway, municipal, and commercial paving and construction projects. Geauga Highway is known for delivering high quality asphalt paving, concrete work, and excavation services that help build and maintain the infrastructure of local communities. The tradition of excellence and reliability that defines the company today is built on a strong historical foundation and family legacy. Owned and operated by John Bojec and Gary Helf, Geauga Highway Company benefits from the guidance of two industry veterans who have been lifelong friends and business partners since the mid-1990s. Their partnership, forged over nearly thirty years, is rooted in mutual trust and a shared commitment to quality workmanship. Together, John and Gary have guided the company’s growth, combining their complementary strengths to ensure that every project is completed with integrity, efficiency, and meticulous attention to detail. This long-standing collaboration at the helm has been a driving force behind Geauga Highway’s reputation for professionalism and continuity of service in the region. John Bojec’s involvement in the Cleveland paving industry began at an unusually early age. As a child, he spent countless hours working alongside his late father, a dedicated truck and equipment operator for the Cleveland Trinindad Company, working on paving jobs around Cleveland. Immersed in the world of asphalt and gravel from boyhood, John learned the ropes of the trade through first-hand experience, absorbing the values of hard work and craftsmanship that would shape his future. Over the decades, he transitioned from being a dump truck owner/operator himself to becoming a respected paving and construction expert in his own right. In the early-1990's John purchased the remaining paving and construction equipment from the Cleveland Trinidad company and started NES Corp, partnering with Gary Helf to establish and grow this new company in the paving industry. John and Gary would work side by side for the next decade, John’s hands-on upbringing in road construction endowed him with a deep understanding of every aspect of paving, from ground preparation to the finishing touches. This lifelong immersion has made him a natural leader and mentor within the Geauga Highway Company, carrying forward the work ethic and pride in workmanship instilled by his father. Gary Helf brings equally impressive credentials and leadership to Geauga Highway’s management. Gary is the former President of the Cleveland Trinidad Paving Company, a long-established and renowned asphalt paving firm in Cleveland, Ohio. During his tenure at Cleveland Trinidad (a company founded in the 19th century and long considered a pioneer in local asphalt road construction), Gary honed his executive and technical expertise in the paving business. His experience leading a major paving company, which at one time had a workforce of over 150 employees under his direction, has been invaluable to Geauga Highway’s operations. Gary’s background as an industry executive adds a wealth of knowledge in project management, quality control, estimaiting and innovative paving techniques. By integrating this big-picture leadership with John’s ground-level experience, Gary helps ensure that Geauga Highway upholds the highest standards of quality and professionalism in every contract. Together, John Bojec and Gary Helf form the cornerstone of Geauga Highway Company’s success. Their combined experience spans virtually all facets of the paving industry, from hands-on field work to corporate leadership, creating a balance of practical know-how and strategic vision at the top of the organization. Having worked side by side for nearly three decades, John and Gary have cultivated a company culture that honors the legacy of those who came before while embracing modern techniques and improvements in equipment and materials. Under their guidance, Geauga Highway continues to operate as a family-oriented business that values safety, reliability, and community trust. The company’s story, from its humble beginnings in the Bojec family’s trade, to the formal establishment of the Geauga Highway Company, and on to its current status as a go-to contractor in Northeast Ohio, reflects a continuity of dedication across generations. In an era of evolving infrastructure needs, the Geauga Highway Company remains anchored by the principles John and Gary champion. They take pride in every project, whether it’s repaving a small township road or constructing a major highway segment, treating it as part of their mission to support and improve the region’s connectivity. Guided by decades of experience and a friendship that has stood the test of time, John and Gary ensure that Geauga Highway “rebuilds America one road at a time” with unwavering commitment. Every new contract is not just a job, but a continuation of a family heritage and a partnership devoted to quality, while looking to the future and never forgetting the values and lessons of its rich past. |
